Behind the scene images - WHY?

There is this new theme in photo shoots now a days. The "behind the scene images".
I've been involved in several photo shoots and this epidemic has become some what of a nuisance to some and some what disrespectful to the photographer. Don't get me wrong, if you have permission then by all means do it. I personally do not like it unless I contract a fellow photographer to shoot them. I mean we're doing a photo shoot! So why in the world would I want anyone else to post something I'm working on before me or before it's ready?
I understand it's fun and exciting but if your a professional then you've done it before. If your new, then act as if.
I know, I know, it sounds rude but you have to understand that in the world of the internet you never know who will see the images. Most websites let you tag photos and if the photo is not up to par ( like the one up here) it could really damage someone's reputation. It will say " behind the scene shoot with GILBERTO VASQUEZ ", WTF!
Now, I know that's going a bit over the top but in the end make sure it's OK with the photographer before hand. Discuss what can be posted. I've done photo shoots and have had other photogs doing the behind the scene shots and love them. I guess it's the fact that they know what they are doing and the respect we have for one another.
You will never see a photographer walking around with brushes doing touch ups while the mua just did their job. Can you imagine how a designer or a stylist would scream if we were to take off their clothes and use our garments from our personal closet? A lot of biting and scratching I'm sure! lol
This topic came up when having lunch with a fellow well known photographer. We had lunch for about 4 hours. So much to talk about and so many topics. Tell me your thoughts on behind the scene shots!

the SCAN look

Lets talk photography and photography style. I've come to the conclusion that the editorial look we are use to seeing was not done in the camera even in the old days of photography. Yes, sure the lighting and the posing is done live. But that's a credit to the professionals in the field.
An editorial fashion look has a desaturated look, kinda flat feel to the image. It's so common that new photographers have made efforts to get their images to look this way on purpose. I like to call it "the scan look".
Back when we use to shoot film and before copiers were so sophisticated. Sometimes people would simply scan an image/tear sheet on a copier and the result would be a flatter look. The copy would never look like the print. Yet it was placed in portfolios and people got accustom to it. With so many people doing this. I've come to the conclusion this is partially how the look developed. Something just had to be different from the portrait photographers.
Before people start telling me, "you can get that look with an action or in Photoshop". I'm talking about the days before online portfolios were even thought of and before Photoshop came into play with so many action options.
Consider that a lomo camera/film gives a very comparative look to the images as well but that's for another time.

Your thoughts please

Had the pleasure of photographing at the Margarito / Pacquiao press conference. These guys will fight on Nov. 13 here @
Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, TX.
Manny Pacquiao is the #1 fighter in the world and is currently a 7 division title holder of General Santos, Philippines. With wins over legendary fighters in all the divisions he has fought in Manny will now be going for a record setting 8th title against the hard hitting punishing Anontio Margarito. Margarito of Tijuana, Mexico has been waiting to fight a top fighter for a long time. Oscar De La Hoya and FLoyd Mayweather avoided Margarito. But two fights ago Margarito was crushed by Shane Mosley in a bout where Margarito's trainer was caught slipping hard gauze in his gloves. When it was discovered Margarito himself had the commission take his other glove off and sure enough the trainer with out Margarito knowing had stuffed the gauze.
Now it's 18 months later and it's redemption time for Margarito.

In this series I used a 2 light system with evening sunlight. Yes it was daytime outside!
Our model Travis was a swimmer back in the day and was more then happy to show me his skills.
With little post work and several shots we completed this campaign in less then an hour. I can see this as a Nike ad, DO YOU?
